How much does it cost to participate in the Triangle Green Business Challenge?

There is no cost to participate in the Triangle Green Business Challenge, but there are plenty of opportunities to help save money in your daily operations!

What’s the time frame of the Triangle Green Business Challenge?

Registration for the Triangle Green Business Challenge is open now. As soon as you register your business, you can begin filling in your baseline information on the scorecard. We recommend that you register by August 1, to allow sufficient time to make progress.  Final scorecards are due November 16, 2012.  The Challenge will end with an Awards Event on December 7, 2012.

How do you win the Challenge and is there an award?

Participants compete within their assigned category. Categories are broken down by type and size of business. Awards will be given in each category for the greatest overall score (Achievement Award) and for the most improved score (Momentum Award). Winning businesses receive a free entry into the Award Winning Green Plus business sustainability certification program to help them continue their “green” efforts (a $500 value!).

What type of publicity will my company receive by participating?

Great publicity!  Participants will be part of an ongoing marketing campaign to highlight their environmental leadership and initiatives. This includes print and web announcements. Triangle J Council of Governments | Office Depot will host regular Lunch-n-Learn events where participating businesses and sponsors will be recognized.

Can I view the scorecard if I’m not a registered participant?

Yes. You can view the scorecard here:  http://www.trianglegreenbusiness.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/TGBC_Scorecard_2012.pdf

Is the Challenge only for new buildings?

The Triangle Green Business Challenge is open to any business located in the Triangle J Council of Government Region, regardless of a building’s age.

Which counties are in the Triangle J Council of Governments Region?

Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Orange and Wake are all a part of the Triangle J region, and are eligible to participate.

What do I use to track my water, waste, and energy use?

To record and track monthly energy usage and savings, we highly recommend that you use this Utility Tracking Form, developed for the Challenge by Waste Reduction Partners. As an alternate, you can use the EPA Portfolio Manager.

The Green Business Challenge Scorecard will serve as the primary tool to guide reductions in waste, water, and energy use during the course of the Challenge.

If my business is eligible, why should we participate?

If your business is just beginning to explore environmental sustainability, the Challenge offers strategies and assistance to help you get started. If your company has been implementing environmentally friendly initiatives, you may score high right off the bat and you could be an example for others. Regardless, all who choose to participate will be recognized publicly for their efforts through a media campaign and awards ceremony. By reducing your use of energy, waste, and water, you’ll also be rewarded with cost savings from reducing your bottom line!
